Using our Influence

No comments:
Just take a moment to consider that there over 6 billion people currently living on the earth. It is amazing to think about the massive cities and the small towns brimming with life. As part of the world goes to sleep, another part of the world wakes up in this continual cycle of life. What is perhaps even more amazing is that each one of those individual people has a soul that desperately needs to be in a relationship with God. When we step back and look at the volume of the task it may seem impossible, but remember we work with One who is not bound by the limits of possibility.
How do I impact my world? First, I impact my own life. I mold myself to become more like Christ in my thoughts, actions and habits. Then I extend this influence to my family and friends. From there I impact people in the workplace or at school. In a snowball effect, I may indeed affect thousands of people with the power of my words and example, but I will never affect them until I have first been affected by Jesus.

Tale of two Joyces

No comments:
Joyce Todd has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will be meeting with a specialist in Nashville on Monday to determine the course of her treatment.

On Friday, Joyce Bennett had an episode with her heart and has been admitted to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital and is undergoing tests.

Remember these two special ladies in your prayers this week.

A better homecoming

This weekend marked the arrival of homecoming at my alma mater, Freed-Hardeman University. I was able to go down on Friday and see some of my old professors and classmates who I do not get to see that often. I even saw some friends who are currently missionaries in Cambodia who were home on furlough and were visiting at FHU to recruit others to join them in their work.
As much as we enjoy homecomings and family reunions here in this life, none of these compare to the great homecoming Heaven will be. We will be eternally at home for no matter where we go in this world we are sojourners and pilgrims. We will be with a great multitude of the saved (Rev. 7) from across time and across the world praising God forever. All the cares and worries of this life will be passed away and we will be at rest with God eternally. Don't you want to be a part of that homecoming?
Be blessed,

Jesus unites us

No comments:
This week has brought an end to the election process that has been going on in our country for almost two years. Since the earliest days of declaring candidacies and the primaries to the conventions and the electoral college calls of last Tuesday night, America was obsessed with choosing a new leader. Regardless of who we supported in the election, our ultimate loyalty as Christians is to Christ and His cause. Christ has the ability to transcend governments, parties, nations, race and politics. Whether it was in the embracing conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well or in the bringing together of Gentiles and Jews in the early church, the message of Christ has always been a message of unity. As Christians we have a responsibility to work for unity in our world especially among believers. The church is Christ's body on earth and is a representation of Christ to the world. Only by presenting a united body working together in harmony can we bring lost souls to Christ and truly change the world.

God is shaping us

No comments:
Yesterday, a friend and I went to Memphis and toured the National Ornamental Metalworking Musuem. Yes, I know what you are thinking, but actually it was not that boring, and, yes it is a real place.

As we looked at dozens of metal objects, it was apparent that a great deal of skill and imagination had went into crafting each of the pieces on display. One thing that each piece had in common whether brass, copper or iron all had been heated to extremely high temperatures to remove impurities and to make the metal easier to work with.
Do you suppose that is what God does with the trials and difficulties we experience in life? He, the Master Metalworker, allows life to "turn up the heat" to remove the hate, anger, lust and envy from our hearts. When we turned to Him in this easily-formative position, He uses other experiences and His word to craft us into glorious works of art.

Be blessed,
-Will
