Community Opportunities

Several Events are going on in the community this week for young and old alike:

  • Palmersville is holding a meeting at 7:30 each evening with Bro. Charles Leonard.  Several from Lebanon were in attendance Sunday evening.
  • Liberty is holding VBS (complete with adult classes) at 7:00 each evening through Thursday evening.  There is a different speaker each evening in the adult session.
Several folks are trying to get in last minute back-to-school vacations and trips to see family.  Be safe this week as you travel.

God bless!

Want to make someone's week...

No comments:
Lee Guinn's birthday is Tuesday.  Lee is doing very well in his new home in Lebanon where he can have more full-time, professional care, but still feel independent.  Why not send Lee a birthday card this week to brighter his day?  Be sure to include the fact you are a member here at Lebanon, so that he will identify you with his "church buddies."  Tommy and Judith will be spending the whole weekend through Tuesday in the Nashville-area with Lee to help him celebrate.  He loves University of Kentucky and Tennessee Titan themed cards...:)

Address:

Lee Guinn
c/o Cedarcroft
P.O. 1266
Lebanon, TN 37088

With the death of his grandparents, father, Tommy's heart problems and his own health struggles, Lee has had a very hard few years.  We all hope and pray that one day he will be able, when the time is right, to be back with us again on a more regular basis.

Thanks for all you do.

Mission Report from Betsy

No comments:
Well, I was just writing you all an email, and, all of a sudden, it disappeared! I had written quite a bit, so now I will condense what I had written. Today, I got to witness 2 baptisms!! One was a teenage girl in a river. Six of us traveled in a truck about 10 miles to get there. Melinda and I rode in the bed of the truck with the preachers which was a pretty unique experience on these bumpy roads. The other baptism was a teenage boy who was baptized in a lagoon/pond.  We had to walk 2 miles and then literally go through a BIG cornfield to get to the water. Both were beautiful and emotional!  I told Randy (leader from Huntingdon) it put the icing on the cake for me. So many stories, I could go on and on, but need to close so others can write. Just had to share this great news!
Can't believe tomorrow will be our last day with the people. It will really be hard for me to say goodbye as I have formed some very special relationships and my Spanish has improved (haha). Take care.

Talk to you soon.

In Him, Betsy

Roger Graham update

No comments:
Roger Graham had heart tests in Nashville this past week which revealed his heart was only pumping at 20% capacity.  This, of course, was not good news, but the test did reveal that there were no current blockages.  Doctors believe that if Roger's condition does not improve, he may have to be placed on the heart transplant list.  Let's continue to pray for the Grahams in this difficult time for there family.

Study continues on life of Jesus on Sunday evenings

No comments:
We are continuing our study on the Life of Jesus on Sunday evenings paying special attention to the geography of the New Testament and the places where Jesus' actual ministry took place.  Tomorrow evening, LORD willing, we will find ourselves in Mark 4 discussing the calming of the Sea of Galilee and how Jesus demonstrated His Divinity by showing power over nature.

If you haven't been able to join us on Sunday evenings, this would be a great time to start as each lesson is fairly independent of the last.  Hope to see you at 5:00 PM for this great time of sharing study together!

Blue Winstead home

No comments:
Blue Winstead has returned home from Iraq after several months of active duty.  Sherry, Duke and Emma Claire are so happy to have their husband and dad home.  We want to be sure and thank Blue for his service and make him feel welcome now that he is back with us at Lebanon.

Update from Melinda and Betsy

No comments:
Melinda and Betsy and the rest of the mission team have arrived safely in Nashville.  They will fly to Honduras in the early hours of the morning tomorrow.  We continue to pray for there safe travel and that God's work may be accomplished by their hands.

If you want to follow the trip more closely, you can see daily photos and updates at the Huntingdon church's mission website at http://huntingdonhondurasmission2010.weebly.com/index.html.

Norrid update

No comments:
Several of you have called and asked about dad.  He is in the hospital in Jackson after having an abscess removed from his abdomen today.  What was originally thought to be a blockage in the colon turned out to be a large pocket of infection pressing against his intestine.  No one seems to know the cause.  The surgeon drained the abscess and now dad is on powerful antibiotics to help fight what remains of the infection.

Please continue to pray for Jack.  If you would like to send a card, please send it to the home address as he should be home by Friday.

As for me, I am continuing to have difficultly swallowing and my voice is still rough.  I am trying to rest it, but the constant vomiting is not helping.  I had an endoscopy on Tuesday which revealed the fact that I again have ulcers in my esophagus and also scar tissue is building up there.  These are contributing to the loss of voice.

Please continue to remember me in prayer as well.

blessings,
-Will

Melinda and Betsy leave Wednesday

No comments:
I have long had friends who felt the need to go to the poorest parts of the world to spread the love of Christ. I have made four such trips in years past to visit and minister to the physical and spiritual needs of people living in abject poverty in the Third World. Most people who take these type trips are medical professionals, preachers or groups of college students. But not always...
Next week, LORD willing, two ladies from the Lebanon church will be traveling to La Cienga, Honduras to minister to the needs of the people there. They are going with a larger group made up of folks from many congregations across our area. Melinda Goode and Betsy Robinson are perhaps not what you imagine when you think of a missionaries. They are women in mid-life with careers and grown children, husbands and, in Betsy's case, a beautiful granddaughter. What makes people like Betsy and Melinda go on expensive and potentially dangerous trips such as this? It is certainly not for recognition or a vacation: these trips are hard work from before dawn to well into the night.
Paul perhaps said it best when he wrote, "But the love of Christ compels us..." Because we know what God in Christ has done for us, we feel a need to share that with everyone we meet. Let's be a sharing people...not just on special mission efforts but also in grocery store lines, at drive-thru windows and in a thousand other places God may take us.

Why not send a card today to Melinda and Betsy to let them know you are praying for them as they journey and do God's work?

Blessings ladies and we will see you when you get home!
-Will

P.S. Pray for the safety of this mission effort and also for the loved ones waiting at home.

Exciting times at Lebanon

No comments:
We are currently studying through the Book of Joshua on Sunday mornings in our adult 10:00 AM Bible class.  We also have three children's classes from infants to teens.

On Sunday evenings at 5:00 PM, we are studying the "Geography in the Life of Jesus."  Our numbers have been small for this study, and I would encourage each one of you to make an effort to make it back on Sunday evenings.  I believe it is some of our best study time that we have at Lebanon.

Thanks to each of you for remembering that although we might take a vacation over the summer, the LORD never rests from doing His work in our lives.

God bless and see you Sunday,
-Will
