Thanks to everyone who took time out from the holiday bustle to be with us last Sunday.  We enjoyed a great season of worship and fellowship talking about the "Day of Returns."

Be sure and be with us this Sunday when, LORD willing, we will discuss another hymn and familiar story from God's Word.

Have a blessed New Year,
-Will

More Love to Thee, O Christ

No comments:
Here at Lebanon, we are performing an exercise of looking at the teaching of hymns and how what we sing shapes what we think and how we feel about God and ourselves. Last week we looked at the great camp meeting hymn, The Old, Rugged Cross. This week I have chosen for us to look at More Love to Thee, O Christ.

I like the song and several of the phrases leap off the page at me.

Earnest plea.
Craved.
Latest breath.

How do I plead with God?
What do I plead for?
What am I craving in my life?
What should I be craving?

What will I say with my last breath?
My next breath?
How far apart are the two?

And always still asking for more love, more love, more love.

A Christmas Opportunity

No comments:
At this time of year when so many in the world are focused on the birth of Jesus, we need to take the opportunity to tell the whole story of Jesus' life and sacrifice. While the date of Jesus' birth is uncertain that doesn't mean we as Christians should not take advantage of every opportunity to tell the greatest story ever told. The blessed Baby of the manger grew up and fulfilled His mission to seek and save the lost. Eventually He was lift up, not in praise, but on the cross to bear the sins of the world. Following His powerful death, God the Father demonstrated His power over both the physical and spiritual worlds by raising Him from the dead.
Of the many things to celebrate about Jesus perhaps the greatest is this: His was born to die that we might live. That truth gives us reason for celebration at this time and every day as we live for Him.
Blessings,
-Will

Sunday worship

1 comment:
Despite today's rain, I am looking so forward to worship with each one of you tomorrow.  If the LORD wills us to see tomorrow, we are going to talk about the theology of the hymnbook in Sunday School and visit another familiar passage in the sermon.  Be sure on planning on being back for the 5:00 PM service to enjoy a full day with your brothers and sisters in Christ.

See you Sunday!

Good to be back

No comments:
Sunday was a great pleasure for me to be back in the pulpit and to be able to share with you some of the things God has been sharing with me in my study.  So many of you expressed thanks at my return and I want you to know just how thankful I am to you all as a congregation for having patience with me.  With rest and refocusing I have been able to return and feel almost 100%.  Looking forward to sharing more years together if it is His will.

Loving the Bible...

No comments:
Tomorrow in our study, we are going to look at the familiar story of Jesus and the woman caught in the act of adultery. While this story is a familiar one, one of the great truths of the Bible is that it never gets old. Just as a person can not step into the same water in a river twice, so it is with the Bible. You are not the same person (physically or spiritually) that you were the first time you heard of Jesus, Moses, Abraham, Peter and Paul. The Bible in this way is truly the "greatest story ever told." Sometimes we focus in on the major events and other times we single out a special verse or more minor story to highlight.
I pray that you and I will never get tired of studying the Bible and reading it for knowledge, wisdom, and yes, even entertainment. I have never found anything like the Bible that provides new insight each time it is opened and never ceases to amaze.
See you Sunday,
-Will
